TWO SPIRIT X INDIGIQUEER MAGIC

evening hang, short film, circle x talk story x craft/ doodle @ Two Rivers Gallery
Thurs Jan 8 | 5:30-9pm | 725 Canada Games Way | Lheidli T’enneh Territory

Hey cuzzies! Our Indigenous queer & trans ancestors were healers, medicine people, artists, storytellers, & innovators. And so are we!

INDIGIQUEER & TWO SPIRIT CENTRED

This event centres Indigiqueer & Two Spirit People. Kin of the global majority, QTBIPOC kin welcome. +1s of any racial background / gender/ orientation welcome.

INDIGIQUEER & TWO SPIRIT MEANS…

Indigenous people whose gender and or sexuality go beyond straight/ or the colonial gender binary. Our Indigenous pre-colonial cultures celebrated broad and diverse genders and relationship types, beyond the colonial binaries of heterosexual couples and or binary genders of man & woman.

We honour our queer & trans pre-colonial ancestors, even if their names and stories have been obscured from us. Their memories live in our bodies.
We are also culture creators. When we live & love true to ourselves we co-create modern Indigenous culture.

about your hosts

Tiaré Lani (they)

Hadih! Born & raised in Lheidli territory I grew up biking by the river, picking berries & seeking frogs with my mama & 2 siblings. I didn’t even know it was possible to be queer growing up in PG. My first crushes were on book characters, “girls” who dressed up as boys so they could do things girls weren’t allowed to do…

As an adult, I am learning more about my ancestors, queerness, and I feel a deeper sense of belonging the more I learn & connect.

I’m an artist, storyteller, singer, dancer, and visual story weaver. I host people and invite us to tune into the wisdom of our bodies.

I’m queer, femme, gender fluid, kinky. I have so many desires I used to fear, used to feel, “there must be something wrong with me.” Embracing them has openned me to feeling my deepest grief & sweetest longings.
